Sex tourism is a monster with many heads, a dragon that cannot be slain in one fell swoop. Tonight is not my night. The clubs are empty. I guess it’s because it’s a Thursday. I’m headed to a local joint that is a favourite amongst Diani residents. My guide, Ali, swears that Beach Road, Ukunda is a tourism hot spot because it’s chock-a-block with lodges, boutiques, cottages, nightspots… you name it – from chic to downright cheap and nasty, all meant to be tourist magnets.

Can you invest in these techpreneurs? (Business Post November 2010)

There is no shortage of ideas and innovations in the technology and new media sectors.

What is in fact lacking is funding to help techpreneurs take their ideas to market, start-ups to upscale their ventures and angel investors to take those already in business to the next level. Bombarded with new ideas on a daily basis and with queries on what it is doing to help assist budding application developers and ICT entrepreneurs, the Kenya ICT Board is trying to match innovators with financiers. Through its Tandaa Kenya initiative, it recently organised a forum where budding techpreneurs pitched their ideas to a panel of venture capitalists.

She looks all of 21 and her thick hair, aided by extensions because she cut it off a few years back, falls down her back. She is so chirpy and perky it’s contagious. Do not be fooled. She has been known to bite.
