After suffering several miscarriages, Pinky Ghelani understands only too well the importance of grieving this type of loss. She tells True Love her story.
There’s no heartbeat,” I heard the doctor who was performing my scan say after about 40 minutes of examination.
I didn’t understand what that meant. I had gone in for my eight-week scan for my first pregnancy. He did a usual scan and then asked me to empty my bladder so he could do a TVS – a trans-vaginal scan – something that allows the doctors to examine the foetus better. “By eight weeks the heartbeat should be very visible and in your case it is not. I am sorry, this pregnancy is not viable.”

A few months ago on a hot Tuesday afternoon, a group of Rotarians were seated in a room listening to Caroline Mutoko give a presentation about men. “Men are hired based on their potential while women are hired by their track record!” The room was in graveyard silence.
No, this was not a feminist meeting. Caroline was telling Rotarians about the men who have made the most impact in her life. She flipped the coin, behind every successful woman there ought to be a supportive man – a father, a brother, a
grandfather, an uncle, a male mentor, a male boss…. she said.

Pint-sized rapper Stella Mwangi, or STL, talks to Jackson Biko about her rise to fame, her rose petal proposal and her plans for the future.
There is a publicist in camouflage cargo shorts jostling for space at the table next to me. He has a video camera wedged next to my elbow. The camera is running. Once in a while, when I get into his shot, he taps my arm gently. It’s annoying, but I’m in his territory: I’m interviewing his boss, Stella Mwangi or STL, by the pool at Nairobi’s Tribe Hotel.

Family Bank’s CEO, Peter Munyiri, has a big ambition: to transform the former building society into a top bank not just in Kenya, or the region but in Africa. Focusing on becoming a leader in the local market he says, is aiming too low. With considerable confidence and enthusiasm, he says the bank has what it takes to rise to the top of the banking industry.
It is however set to be a tough journey. Family Bank was started as a finance building society in 1984 by Titus Muya, who served for many years as managing director and is currently the chairman of the Board of Directors. In 2007, it converted into a commercial bank with its main focus being microfinance and offering services to small and medium enterprises.
